Our Peacebuilding Programme Activities have been developed over the past 10 years and consist of 5 steps:

Step 1 We set up the shura in communities where the traditional community structures for community leaders have been damaged or dissolved through decades of conflict. We refer to these as Peace Councils.
Step 2 We train members and community leaders of the Peace Councils at the provincial level in listening skills, negotiation, mediation, peace building frameworks and conflict resolution strategies.  (Conflict Resolution Training Course Details)
Step 3 We support those shura members to set up district and village level councils to pass on the skills amongst all levels of the community.
Step 4 We facilitate exchange visits between provincial level peace councils to learn from one another.
Step 5 We provide on-going support for 3 years to each project

Currently CPAU is working with:

Oxfam Novib on
building the capacity of previously established Peace Councils, Peace and Development Committees and trained Peace Educators. We helped create links and contacts through facilitating inter-zonal, inter-district exchange visits between peace groups and communities.
We will  provide peace education for 22,000 school children in Farza, Sayedabad and Jaghori districts.

Norwegian Church Aid continuing to build on and strengthen the capacities of 13 peace groups and community institutions which has a collective membership of 407 people in Jaghori and Sayedabad districts. We will train the Peace Groups in  project management skills to enable them to micro manage the planning, implementation, monitoring and finances of a micro- project for peace building. We will also facilitate exchange visits and joint activities between the districts to encourage networking and information sharing.
